When my daughter with Down syndrome was only a few weeks old, my husband and I met with a genetics counselor. Thankfully, by the time we met with this particular professional, I had already read the book, “Gifts: Mothers Reflect on How Children With Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives.” If I had not read the book, I believe I would have walked away of that meaning feeling as if there was no hope for my child.
